No plan survives first contact.
In the nineteenth century, Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke the Elder observed that no plan of operations extends with any certainty beyond the first encounter with the main enemy forces. The line is usually quoted as a warning about war, but its real subject is systems under pressure: the moment when strategy leaves the page and encounters weather, friction, incentives, habits, fear, shortcuts, and human beings moving at speed.
Enterprise knowledge systems fail in the same place.
Not in the procurement deck. Not in the implementation plan. Not in the kickoff meeting. They fail at first contact with daily work: the sales rep who will not update Salesforce, the program manager who saves the file to her desktop, the analyst who cannot find the latest version, the executive who wants trusted data from a process no one follows.
Moltke & Associates exists in that interval — between the system as designed and the system as lived.
